Double Wills
Otherwise known as "Mirror Wills" and designed for those who just wish to leave everything to their partner or spouse and then to children, or, to other beneficiaries!
A Double Will allows both you and your partner to leave your entire estate to the survivor, when one of you dies. In the event that both of you die, the entire estate would usually be passed to your children, or named beneficiaries, in the absence of any children.
It is also possible for gifts of certain personal items, or bequests of money, to be made by each partner; whilst leaving the remainder, or "residue", to their partner and then to their children.
Guardianship for children under the age of 18 can also be recorded. This is especially important where there are children from earlier relationships to consider. Please note that your current spouse/partner may otherwise have no right to be involved in directing the care of your children from an earlier relationship, even if they have taken this responsibility during your lifetime. Without a Will recording guardianship, the courts may decide who should be appointed to care for your children, which may mean strangers taking over.
In addition to stand alone Wills, Whitebrook Legal Services also offer a range of Comprehensive Protection Plans for couples. These packaged services offer a significant saving when compared with the cost of purchasing the individual elements separately, over a period of time.
