What happens in the event that you are no longer able to make your own decisions regarding your medical care, due to illness or incapacity?
Whilst your spouse or parents may give instructions to doctors about your medical treatment, what happens if they are not available?
A Living Will is a legal document that allows you to convey your decisions now, about medical or end-of-life care.
They provide a way for you to communicate your wishes to family, friends and health care professionals, and to avoid complications and difficult decisions for others later down the line.
A Lasting Power of Attorney for Health and Welfare allows you to give authority to specific people, who may then express your wishes and give such instructions on your behalf, in consultation with your doctors. Registration of such an LPA document would replace any prior Living Will.
